Bin roye (review) Episode 17

And so Bin Roye ends…

The first episode of Bin Roye got me all excited. I had read the novel but hadn’t seen the movie so I was really looking forward to it. It just had to be too good.

But it wasn’t.

Now, it wasn’t actually bad but not as great as I imagined it to be. The wrap up/last episode was a delight to watch as Saba got the happy ending every one had been waiting for but the previous few episodes left a lot to be desired.

Mahira khan owned the role of Saba. Saba was immature, stubborn and just too real to be a fictional character. Mahira khan’s flawless acting made her a lovable character. Although, if not done right, she would easily have become the anatogonist instead. And, how can someone look so pretty all the time!

If only mahira khan could have played the role of Saba, only humayon saeed could ensue the charm of irtiza. He can still any girl’s heart skip a beat. Irtiza was calm, loving and very handsome… And humayon saeed made it all look so effortless.

Bin roye showed us two cousins, irtiza and Saba, both loving each other. But it Irtiza’s love for Saba was completely platonic. However, for Saba, Irtiza was her whole world. She found it impossible to accept he could marry some one else, and she could not even hate his wife. Mahira khan nailed all the scenes where Saba was shown being torn between these emotions. In the heat of the moment she ill wishes her sister and keeps blaming herself for her death a few years later. Unable to forgive herself, she feels disgusted when she finds herself married to Irtiza few years down the lane. Her confession towards the end and how slowly and gradually Irtiza starts loving her as his wife is shown beautifully.

It’s not very easy to pen down such simple yet beautiful stories. Farhat ishtiaq did it but the director(s)  ruined it by altering the story in unacceptable manner.  The story itself was perfect, it didn’t have to be different from the novel at all. In fact, every thing going against bin roye drama is what had been changed from bin roye ansoo novel.

For now, let me just be in the hang over of how awesome mahira khan and humayon saeed look togather and wish they would be cast togather in another project really soon.

Bin roye (review) Episode 11-16

Back home, back to life, back to normalcy… And back to watching dramas!

So a lot has happened in the last 6 episodes. Saba got married to safeer, the biggest loser in the history of pakistani drama. He did not have guts to inform Saba before they got married but because he is the most honest person on the face of the planet, he confesses about his first marriage. As Saba is angry with herself, she thinks that Allah is punishing her jealousy towards saman. She convinces safeer to keep it a secret from everyone else and promises him that she will stay with his mom in pakistsn like a good sanskari bahu while he can enjoy his American dream with his wife and kids. Safeer ko aur kya chaiye. Sonia jaisi wife aur Saba jaisi naukrani. After a year or so, irtiza seems to be the only person in Saba’s family who starts getting suspicious as to why safeer and Saba are still not living together. After little investigation he finds out that safeer is married. He informs the whole family and Saba’s family gets her divorced. Meanwhile Saba keeps protesting that she wants to stay  married to safeer. After the divorce, rather than taking Saba to a psychiatrist, they marry her off to irtiza (wtf!!). Saba is still angry with irtiza and herself and rather than doing some counselling, irtiza is dragging her around the whole house! It’s rather pathetic that these scenes are being considered by the makers although it can be conveniently considered domestic violence.

All in all, I am disappointed with how the story has been handled. The deviations from the novel have actually worked against the drama. Dadi knew nothing about Saba liking irtiza or her bad dua for saman and that was better for the overall development of the story. Now it doesn’t make any sense why dadi is so clueless over Saba’s reactions. Also, why are Saba’s parents absent all the time..! If zeba bakhtiyar and javed shaikh didn’t have enough time for this project, some other actors should have been signed and their scenes could have been redone. Their absence sticks out like a sore thumb.

From the promos it seems it’s going to be bin roye’s last episode this Sunday… And the torture will end.

So are also still following bin roye?

Bin roye (episode 8-9-10) review

I still cant believe how such a beautiful yet simple story be ruined like the way it has been here!

Safeer is now secretly married to his non Muslim girlfriend. he also has a 2 year old son and it all happened in I think 4 weeks…while Saman and irtiza were perhaps only unpacking in USA. so Saman got pregnant too and has a son. Saba goes to meet Saman and irtiza where she time and again behaves rudely especially after irtiza’s friend, amir, starts taking interest in her. she rejects amir’s proposal and everyone is baffled as amir seemed to be the perfect guy for her. Saman and irtiza visit Pakistan to celebrate their son’s birthday and it is here that Saman realizes that saba has always been in love with irtiza (a useless realization as she does nothing at all after that, this is also one of the useless additions in the drama as Saman never realizes this in the novel). Saman has an accident and she dies (unfortunately the story only moves forward with someone’s death). Saba is full of guilt and blames herself for Saman’s death and can’t seem to cry (hence the name, bin roye).

The drama has disappointed me to say the least. the story was quite good, simple but powerful in the novel. the choppy editing, confusing timeline and lack of powerful performances (except mahira khan) have turned this much awaited and highly anticipated drama serial into nothing but a series of blunders. I still can’t understand why saba’s mother is never shown talking to her! I have never seen a mother daughter duo who never ever speaks to each other. Dadi is her best friend, I get it but there should have been a scene at least where zeba bakhtiyar was perhaps shown talking to saba!! But I’m glad there was a scene for zafar this time round. And irtiza, he seems to be moving on rather quickly too as it took him several episodes to fall in love but less than half episode to move on after Saman’s death.

all that is worth talking about now is mahira khan and only mahira khan. she looks lovely without make up, just like a girl should look like, with disheveled hair and sad eyes, who has just lost her sister. she looks like someone who is feeling guilty for someone’s death.  she looks devastated. and she does that brilliantly. the role of saba fits mahira khan like a glove and I have developed deep respect for this beautiful actress.

Next week I will of course be tuning in to see more of the very beautiful mahira khan. how about you?

Bin roye (episode 7) review

Ok, so safeer in the drama serial is a bigger coward and liar than he was in the novel. he got his girlfriend pregnant and then disowned his own child!  he had the audacity to emotionally blackmail his girlfriend into getting an abortion!! he is such an a**. I feel sorry for Sonia who will soon be getting married to safeer (and then for saba too who will also be becoming his wife later; apologies for the spoiler).

So in this episode, Saman and irtiza have moved to USA and saba is trying to get back to normalcy. she is torn between her love for her sister and irtiza. on one hand she is very happy for Saman to be happily married (and pregnant) and on the other hand she feels pangs of desire as soon as she sees irtiza.

This episode too belonged completely to Mahira Khan. it won’t be wrong to say that bin roye depends heavily on mahira khan’s star power, her performance and her beauty (sans make up). I was quite happy to see a few scenes of other actors too. finally humayon Saeed got a few scenes too. but I was very disappointed with the dubbing of some of the scenes.

I’m hoping the story will move forward at a faster pace as its become very slow now. but perhaps it’s the calm before the storm…wouldn’t say more so as not to give away the story

Bin roye (review) episode 6

Mahira khan! oh yes! Bin Roye is all about Mahira Khan. her beauty and her amazing performance is what Bin Roye makes a treat.

In this episode, Saman got married to Irtiza and although saba had been ‘pretending’ that she has moved on, she hasn’t. all her emotions came out pouring after Saman and irtiza got nikohofied. mahira khan was more than brilliant in that scene. saba’s dadi was there to witness it all but she let her cry her heart out. Saba cursed Saman several times during her outburst and it hurt her dadi. her dadi is like her best friend who knows her deepest, darkest secrets. on the other hand, safeer’s mommy is looking for a rishta for her son and she has saba in her mind. however, safeer himself is in love with a Hindu girl he met while he was studying in USA. safeer, being a coward agrees to get married to saba and does not have guts to leave his girlfriend either. safeer’s mommy has proposed saba via her dadi and her dadi has asked for a little time. meanwhile Saman and irtiza have found happiness in each other and they seem to be enjoying marital bliss.

This episode was all about Mahira Khan as I mentioned before. she not only looks stunning, her performance is on point too. the song was a delight to watch. however, I am not too happy with performances of other actors (except for dadi who is phenomenal). humayon Saeed and armeena Rana khan look good but they hardly have any expressions on their face. when humayon Saeed should be looking intense, you can actually see him smiling. Armeena Rana khan cannot act!! Please someone tell her that all good looking people are not good actors too. The shadi night scene was anything but romantic! And why are saba’s parents and her brother not being given much screen time? I fail to understand that.

Anyway, I am definitely loving it for mahira khan. I never knew she could act so well.

Bin Roye (Review) Episode 5

While reading Bin Roye Aansoo, one thing that I loved about Saba was that she was very relatable. She is not an evil person but has all the emotions like all of us rather than the leading ladies of most of our serials. She can get jealous, can get angry and is also aware of it all. This episode cemented it further that Mahira Khan was the right choice for the role.

In this episode, Saba found out that irtiza has fallen in love with Saman and not her. She, all of a sudden, seems to have lost control over everything. Saman is now the favorite child of her parents and irtiza is love struck. she is the older, prettier, wiser and sughar beti but the only thing that bothers saba is that irtiza has chosen Saman over saba. she tries to be rude to be Saman but Saman being her ‘good’ self keeps on loving saba. Saba shares her feelings with her dadi and her dadi tells her to accept the fact that irtiza is in love with Saman and saba must not be jealous. during the engagement ceremony, saba tries her best to look happy but there is sadness in her eyes that no one notices except for her dadi.

The episode belonged completely to Mahira Khan. I’m loving her minimal make up look which is in complete contrast to armeena Rana khan’s. And yes, her performance is simply brilliant. I cried with saba when I read the novel and I cried today with saba while watching the scene where she over heard irtiza proposing Saman.

Next week I will be tuning in to see saba only. she is my favorite character on screen right now

Bin Roye (Review) Episode 3-4

Did i mention before that i simply adore Mahira Khan? I have seen her work before but she has outdone herself in Bin Roye. She is beautiful, raw, innocent and very passionate as Saba. In the initial episodes I was a little unsure as mahira does not look like a school girl any more. Im glad that phase ended pretty soon and now she is a post graduate student. Mahira looks like someone in her early 20’s so now she seems age appropriate for the role. The last two episodes belonged to mahira khan alone. I have recently read Bin Roye Aansoo and saba being such a difficult character, I was not sure if any actress would be able to do justice but mahira khan has done better than I could imagine. Saba is immature but very kind hearted and loving. If played by someone who didn’t understand saba properly, she might have looked irritating on screen. Instead, you just can’t help but fall in love with saba.

The last two episodes moved the story forward a great deal. Satan’s adoptive parents died in a plane crash and Saman is now in Pakistan with her real parents. Saba and zafar have also found out that Saman is not their cousin and is in fact their real sister. Saba is ecstatic and welcomes her with open arms. I just loved this about saba. She is not jealous or insecure but instead she loves the idea of having a sister/friend at home. Irtiza is genuinely interested in Saman and saba has started to notice this too and I loved those scenes too.

I’m still trying to understand the age difference among them. In the novel it’s very clear that irtiza is 7 years older than saba and 5 years older than Saman. In the drama, it’s very confusing. In the first episode, saba was still in school (17-18 years old?) and irtiza was over 30. Now saba is 22 and irtiza must be in his mid 30s. First of all, why isn’t he married yet? Secondly, he must be 12-13 years older than Saman too, why is that age difference not a problem for both Saman and irtiza?

Anyway, I’m totally in love with Bin Roye now and in fact, I’m glad that have made it so filmi.
